Bay City Rollers!
Someone brought this to my attention.

It is a version of the song with strings and a tambourine.
In fact, it is the way I seem to remember it from back
then.

Does this mix exist on any CD, maybe an import?

Grant, that YouTube version (especially the beginning) doesn't sound like the
version I heard on any of my local Top 40 stations and/or AT40 in the
summer of 1977. I do like that "busier, stringy instrumentation intro",
though, so I checked a German import hits CD I'd bought way back in the
late 80's, hoping this video mix might be on there. But no - it had the same
"common" hit 1977 version I own elsewhere. But it did look like they were
lip-syncing that performance, so, like Gordon, I'm hopeful that that video,
likely released on vinyl from somewhere in the world back then, turns up
somewhere on CD.

The only thing left to do is look for the U.S. Arista 45.

Grant, I've had the original U.S. 45 since it was a current. And although you
seem to remember that video version to be the original U.S. 45 version, I
strongly disagree - it took me all of about one second to realize that it
isn't/wasn't.

The only CD versions of this tune has the US single mix. Which is what is common.

I will default to your memory. The mind can play tricks.
But I just remember the song sounding livelier than it does
on CD. Oh well...

The US LP and 45 sounded more lively than the CD to my ears as did the UK LP.
