my commercial 45 for the lloyd price song "misty" issued as
double-l 722 states the run time on the label as 2:50 but
actually runs 3:00.....in addition it states the version on
it is "recorded 'live' at small's paradise nyc march
'63"....

I don't own the CD with the (2:53) version listed in the database, but I purchased a download on the same label (Ripete) that is also stereo and runs (2:53), so this is almost certainly the same version. In comparing this version to my US commercial 45, the two do appear to me to be the same performance, but there are differences in the "crowd" noises. For example, on the 45 the crowd noises have completely died down by the time Price gets to the line, "I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree." On the Ripete version, there are still crowd noises during this line.

Lloyd Price owned the Double-L label himself, but I don't know who currently owns the master.

Just discovering this #21 song...it's a mystery. the45prof on YouTube has a
live version as the 45 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df_6T-4YKR4. My
Whitburn book does not indicate live. The database indicates a "not the 45
version" for a stereo version.

Just what is this 45? And, what was on the LP "Misty"?

I have a stereo version, nearly identical in
performance but pitched up, with no applause.

Does anyone know where this version first appeared?

I don't even remember where I got the file from...

The similarities indicate to me that this was probably
a "fake" live recording despite the 45 label credit.

Any information or conjecture from the gallery would
be appreciated!

Andy

The YouTube link is indeed the 45 version.

Well, that being the case, the Record Research fellas will need to update
their book! But, perhaps there was more than one single issued???

SOME 45s have recorded 'live' at small's paradise nyc march
'63 on the label while others do not. And careful listening of the "live" vs. a
"not live" version for just over a minute, I believe they are the same
recording.

So, maybe the 45 was reissued with the crowd overdubs (and label update)
to indicate it was live, but wasn't?

Anyone else can help here, e.g., anyone having a non-live 45, much
appreciated to solve this mystery.

BTW, if someone could send me the stereo version, I'd really appreciate it!

thanks.

I didn't time it, but on the mono Misty LP the crowd noise is over well before the "I'm as helpless line," it dies out about halfway between that line and the opening one. And to clarify; the LP is a "live" version, which I've put in quotes as it sounds like there might be some evidence it's not truly a live recording. The entire LP is live, with banter between the cuts about the background singers, etc. I realize the front cover doesn't imply this in any way, but it's not a studio album, per se.
