I was at an event last week and played "I'm Real" (Murder Remix), which I dubbed from my promo CD single. I was taken by surprise when the "n" word was still in tact throughout, despite the fact that the track is clearly labeled as "Clean."

I'm 100% positive that my old top 40 station didn't play it with the "n" word, and I also have a Promo Only compilation disc (Urban Radio, October 2001) that has it with the "n" word censored.

Was there another promo CD issued that has the "n" word censored?

Here are the details of mine:

No catalog number on disc label, but it is a factory pressed CD with matrix "CC6679 C&C DUPLICATORS IM REAL <16:47>"

1. Clean (4:22) (actual 4:18)
2. Acapella (3:42)
3. Instrumental (4:22) (actual 4:17)
4. Explicit (4:22) (actual 4:20)

A couple of notes: The "Clean" version on this promo does censor the "M.F." word on the intro. Also, the "Acapella" version censors the "n" word.

Hmm, interesting. I'm not quite sure where my promo CD is, but when I find it, I'll let you know how it is censored.

The Murder Remix is track ten on Ja Rule's Pain Is Love CD (which is
currently not listed in the database).

One more thing I noticed. There is an entry from the J.Lo disc labeled
LP version without Ja Rule that runs (4:55) and another entry on the
Now 8 disc that runs (3:14) that is also labeled LP version without Ja
Rule.

^ The version on Now 8 is an edit of the original J.Lo LP version
(which of course is a completely different song than the Murder Remix,
despite the same title... both songs got airplay so at the time the trades
combined them into one chart position... see also "Ain't It Funny").

I just acquired another promo CD single for "I'm Real," so I thought I'd share the details. Again, this one has no catalog number, but it's an official, factory-pressed promo CD. The matrix number on this one says "CC6680 C&C DUPLICATORS IM REAL POP <12:36>"

1. Murder Remix (featuring Ja Rule) (Clean) (listed 4:22; actual 4:18)
2. Radio Edit (listed 3:15; actual 3:14)
3. Album Version (listed & actual 4:55)

The "Clean" version on this promo also does NOT censor the "n" word.

I also have, in my possession, an official Epic CD-R promo with the following:

1. Remix Featuring Ja Rule (actual 4:21)
2. Single Edit (actual 3:15)

There is no mention of the word "clean" anywhere on this disc, but guess what? It's totally clean with no "n" word!

Finally, our friend mainrhythm has shared with me the details of his official Epic CD-R promo, which is different from mine. It's a 1-track that is simply labeled "Edit." The actual run time of this version is 3:19. It's also the remix, but Ja Rule has been tamed a little. Instead of the back-and-forth lines between him and J-Lo on the intro, it simply has instrumental for 26 seconds. At that point, it cuts to J-Lo's first verse by herself ("I met so many men..."). This "Edit" also completely skips over Ja Rule's second verse and goes to J-Lo's third verse.

So, it looks like we have at least four officially released promos for "I'm Real."
