Here is some info on the promo CDs for several of Ja Rule's top 40 hits.
Between Me And You
DEFR-15117-2
1. Radio Edit (4:10 listed & actual)
2. Instrumental (4:10 listed & actual)
3. Call Out Research Hook
Put It On Me
(My CD is currently filed away in a box, but I will update this thread when I get access to it.)
Livin' It Up
I have three different promo CDs for this one.
DEFR-15442-2
1. Mainstream Version (3:18 listed & actual)
2. Album Version (4:20 listed & actual)
3. Call Out Research Hook
DEFR 15393-2 (no listed times)
1. Radio Edit (actual 4:20)
2. Instrumental (actual 4:22)
The third promo CD is on a Def Jam CD-R, and there are no tracks or times listed. I can post the details if anyone is interested. The most fascinating track on this promo is the "dirty" version of "Livin' It Up." To date, the dirty version has never been issued anywhere on CD, including the explicit version of the full-length album.
Always On Time
There are at least two promo CDs for this, but I currenly only own one.
DEFR 15441-2 (no listed times)
1. Radio Edit (4:03 actual)
2. Instrumental (4:02 actual)
3. Call Out Research Hook
Mesmerize
I own two promo CDs for this.
DEFR 15789-2 (no listed times)
1. Mainstream Radio Edit (3:36 actual)
2. Album Version (4:38 actual)
3. Instrumental (4:38 actual)
4. Call Out Hook
DEFR 15768-2 (no listed times)
1. Radio (4:39 actual)
2. Instrumental (4:40 actual)
3. Call Out Hook
Most notable between the two promos is that the "Mainstream Radio Edit" contains alternate, cleaner lyrics than the "Radio" and "Album Version." Also, the "Album Version" on the first listed promo is censored, and I'm pretty certain it matches the "Radio" version on the second listed promo.
Ain't It Funny (Jennifer Lopez feat. Ja Rule)
ESK 56672
1. Remix Featuring Ja Rule (3:36 listed; 3:54 actual)
2. Album Version (4:05 listed & actual)
The database does not currently distinguish which is the hit version (only lists "remix" next to J To the L-O CD). I rarely ever heard the album version on the radio in my market. Furthermore, the database lists the song as "featuring Ja Rule," but Ja Rule is not on the album version. Pat, you may need to revisit this entry.

Upon further research, there was indeed a second promo CD single release of Ja Rule featuring Ashanti's "Always on Time" (Def Jam 15496) with the following tracks and printed run times:
1) Mainstream Pop Edit - 3:32
2) Album Version - 3:58
3) Instrumental - 4:03
4) Call Out Research Hook - :10
If anyone has a copy of this DJ CD single and can pass along the actual run times of the first two tracks, it would be much appreciated.

What is the difference between the 'mainstream' version and
the 'radio edit' for "Livin' It Up?"

does the 'radio edit' version of the song 'between me and
you' contain the 'N' words at the 0:52, 1:39 and 1:52 mark
of the song?....i have the song dubbed from an in store
sampler, which seams clean except for the 'n' word
reference throughout the song.....also....does ja rule say
what sounds like the word 'shit' at the beginning of the
song at the 0:02 mark.......

The "radio edit" has all the N-words edited out, nor do I hear the S-word at 0:02.

I haven't directly compared the two, but I think the "Mainstream Edit" cuts out one of the verses and adds an additional chorus at the end (by way of editing).
