although not in the db because of it's low peak chart
position of #40 in late 1973...my commercial 45 for the
bette midler song 'friends' issued as atlantic 2980 states
the run time on the label as 2:59 and does indeed run that
length......in addition the vinyl 45 sounds slightly
different than the cd version from the 'best of'
cd.....anyone else think the vinyl 45 is a different take
than the cd version from the best of?.....also..the vinyl
45 runs 0:06 LONGER than the cd versions in the db.....

There is a deluxe two disc Rhino CD that is slated to be released in Oct. which includes the original Divine Miss M album plus bonus tracks. One of those bonus tracks is labeled single mix for this song. Will it be in mono or stereo plus will it truly be the single mix? Too early to answer but stay tuned for more.

I just listened to this track online. It's stereo and
runs 2:56 but is listed as being 2:59.

What is the difference between the shorter length
versions and the 45?

john, i just bought/downloaded the song 'friends' from
amazon and it matches my vinyl 45 perfectly, running
2:58...my earlier timing was off by 0:01....2:58 is the
correct time for the vinyl 45....let me know if anyone else
needs the track...

From my listening to this track, the single mix as featured on the Deluxe CD
issue (disc 2) is slightly different from "Session 2" (produced by Barry
Manilow). It is a different mix, and from what I can make out, is a different lead
vocal from about 0:18 to 0:50. Anyone else care to chime in with their input?

There is also "Session 1" on the disc, which, as on the original LP was the
original version produced by Joel Dorn. It runs shorter.

Pat has designated in the database the deluxe edition
contains LP version 1, LP version 2 and the 45 version.
It looks like the longest of the 3 is the 45 version.
