I believe the version on the “Super Hits Of The 70's Volume 25” CD is from
vinyl. I could be wrong, but during the intro, I am sure I hear record noise
and a thump. The version from “Dick Bartley Presents Collector's Essentials:
The 70's” is clean. Take a listen and update database if you agree, Pat.

What David said is all true. The version on Rhino was taken from vinyl and the version on Varese Sarabande (which came out later) was taken from tape. I don't know the reasons Rhino couldn't find a tape copy for "Super Hits". Usually, Bill Inglot is great at finding tape copies, especially when no one else can. (I actually was a co-producer of "Super Hits" Volumes 23-25, although not all CD booklets list me - the first runs mistakenly did not.)

I had considerable written and spoken correspondence with Bill. He told me that he knew the owner of the tape for "Right On The Tip Of My Tongue" had a stereo mix but was one whose attitude was "the mono mix you got is good enough". That was NOT Bill's style, however, it was beyond his control. So was the (then) unavailable mono 45 mix of "Hooked On A Feeling". Donna Reid-Haig from Scepter gave Bill the runaround and Gary Stewart from Rhino told Bill to put on the LP stereo mix because they had to get the piece out the door.
Sometimes you can eventually get the tape that you want but release schedules may demand alternative choices.
