I'm having a hard time sorting out this one -- the database says there is an "original" take (which was recorded in 1978 but became a hit in 1981) and an "alternate take" (which ended up replacing the original take on several of the CD re-released of the original LPs).

I have three different copies which seem to be identical in take and mix, and have even compared them to the sample on Amazon's page for the "vol. 3" that's supposed to have the original take.

Are the takes just that similar, or do I just have four copies of the alternate take (or 4 copies of the original take!)?

What should I be listening for... I'm so confused!

My compact disc copy of the Beach Boys MIU album released as Caribou/Epic 46957 with no standard matrix number stamped on the playing side of the disc but with a CMU P 59 stamped on the printed non-playing side of the disc features a version of Come Go With Me that has a totally different arrangement of this song vs the vinyl LP release and single release. On this arrangement you will clearly hear a piano in the background from the very start of the song. Don't know if Epic ever remastered this cd to correct the problem but you will immediately know upon listening that this is an alternate mix.

That's exactly what I needed to know, Pat... so the version WITHOUT a piano is the "hit" version.

Thank you so much!!!
