BIG hit. Big enough to inspire a low-charting parody, "The Topical Song" by the Barron Knights (peaked at #70 in 1979).

LP length (runs 4:08)

The song sounds great on the MFSL version of Breakfast In America, but it's probably prohibitively expensive.

The song also sounds really nice on the original A&M issue of Breakfast In America, but with a slightly hissier fade than the MFSL. Both of the above run 4:08.

I think the version on swaitek's promo 50-CD The A List Disc 1 uses the same analog transfer as the original A&M disc, but with absolute polarity inverted, a slightly shortened fade, and possible added noise reduction. Go with the original A&M if you can.

I can't vouch for any of the other remasterings of Breakfast In America.

45 length (runs 3:39)

There is a shortened version on A&M's Classics Vol. 9 (1987), but it runs too long at 3:47 and cuts off a tiny bit of the attack of the opening keyboard note (about 0.05 seconds). There's a digital clone on Time-Life's Gold And Platinum Vol. 3 (1997; digitally exactly 1.5 dB louder).

If you can, start with the MFSL or the original A&M version of Breakfast In America, and fade from 3:25 to 3:39.

I'm guessing it was a custom fade I did without
listening to a 45. ;)
