Hey all. There are 2 K-tel records I used to have that don't seem to be listed on discogs at all. They both came from the second half of the 80s when k-tel was pretty much giving up on the compilations vinyl LPs. I would love the track listings of both if anyone has them.
I can't remember the title of the first one. The only songs I can remember being on it are Elton John's "Kiss the Bride," Nick Lowe's "I Knew the Bride," and Air Supply's "Just As I Am." This album probably came out in like 85.
The second was called On Top and would have been a 1987 album. I think it had "Heart and Soul" by T'Pau on it as well as "Mary's Prayer" by Danny Wilson.
Sorry I can't give any more clues, but that is really all I can remember about the two albums.

I found the "On Top" album here:
http://www.ktel.com/classics_music.php?id=4430
That site seems to have just about every K-Tel album ever released, so you should be able find the other one there as well.

It didn't include anything by Elton John (one too many "brides", lol), but it sounds like the U.S. K-tel collection you're describing is Hit After Hit, from 1986. It was issued on both vinyl LP (K-tel TU 154-0) and cassette (K-tel TU 154-4); I have the latter myself. :-) (This was borderline for when K-tel first started issuing their famous V/A compilations on CD, but I've never seen this particular title in the digital format, so I'm gonna say it probably doesn't exist - but if it does, it's extremely rare.) Track list was as follows (oh, and except for the tune by Nick Lowe, the other 11 were all top 40 hits, by Pat's standards):
Side One:
WHITNEY HOUSTON - "Saving All My Love for You"
ARETHA FRANKLIN - "Freeway of Love"
REO SPEEDWAGON - "Can't Fight This Feeling"
READY FOR THE WORLD - "Oh Sheila"
JERMAINE JACKSON - "Do What You Do"
MURRAY HEAD - "One Night in Bangkok"
Side Two:
FORCE M.D.'S - "Tender Love"
DeBARGE - "Rhythm of the Night"
KOOL & THE GANG - "Cherish"
PATTI LaBELLE - "New Attitude"
AIR SUPPLY - "Just as I Am"
NICK LOWE - "I Knew the Bride (When She Used to Rock & Roll)"
Listing for the vinyl LP from a third-party seller on Amazon (w/ photo): V/A - "Hit After Hit" (K-tel) (1986) (vinyl LP) Current listing for the cassette on eBay (also w/ photo): V/A - "Hit After Hit" (K-tel) (1986) (cassette)

You're actually confusing two different K-tel collections here. Yes, K-tel did release a V/A compilation here in the U.S. in 1987 titled On Top, but it didn't have either the T'Pau or Danny Wilson hits you cited. It was issued in all three formats: vinyl LP (K-tel TU 187-0), cassette (K-tel TU 187-4), and CD (K-tel TU 187-2). In fact, I bought the cassette myself back when it first came out, and still have it to this day. :-) Track list was as follows (all 12 songs were top 40 hits, by Pat's standards):
Side One:
BON JOVI - "You Give Love a Bad Name"
ARETHA FRANKLIN - "Jumpin' Jack Flash"
JERMAINE STEWART - "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off"
EL DeBARGE - "Who's Johnny"
THOMPSON TWINS - "King for a Day"
TIMBUK 3 - "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades"
Side Two:
BILLY VERA & THE BEATERS - "At This Moment"
BEN E. KING - "Stand By Me"
THE MOODY BLUES - "Your Wildest Dreams"
THE MONKEES - "That Was Then, This is Now"
JERMAINE JACKSON - "I Think It's Love"
TIMEX SOCIAL CLUB - "Rumors"
Recent listing for the vinyl LP on eBay (w/ photo): V/A - "On Top" (K-tel) (1987) (vinyl LP) Recent listing for the cassette on eBay (also w/ photo): V/A - "On Top" (K-tel) (1987) (cassette)
The U.S. collection you're thinking of that featured both "Heart and Soul" and "Mary's Prayer" was Hot Hits, from 1988. Again, it was issued in all three formats: vinyl LP (K-tel TU 195-1), cassette (K-tel TU 195-4), and CD (K-tel TU 195-2). I have the cassette myself. :-) Track list was as follows (and again, all 12 songs were top 40 hits, by Pat's standards):
Side One:
ARETHA FRANKLIN and GEORGE MICHAEL - "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)"
ROBBIE NEVIL - "C'est La Vie"
T'PAU - "Heart and Soul"
EXPOSE - "Point of No Return"
JELLYBEAN ftg. ELISA FIORILLO - "Who Found Who"
CHICO DeBARGE - "Talk to Me"
Side Two:
STRYPER - "Honestly"
CROWDED HOUSE - "Don't Dream it's Over"
ABC - "When Smokey Sings"
DANNY WILSON - "Mary's Prayer"
GLASS TIGER - "Someday"
HUMAN LEAGUE - "Human"
Vinyl LP in K-tel's "Classics/Museum": V/A - "Hot Hits" (K-tel) (1988) (vinyl LP) Current listing for the cassette on eBay (w/ photos): V/A - "Hot Hits" (K-tel) (1988) (cassette)
I see that neither On Top or Hot Hits is currently listed in the on-line database; these of course will eventually need to be added...
As I've mentioned here on this board in the past, I've always been a HUGE fan of the older K-tel compilations from the '70s & '80s; I've even gone so far as to collect most of them in all three formats: vinyl LP, 8-track, and cassette. Next??? :-)

Strange, but when I typed that particular title into the site's search engine, it said "no results" were found!
Frankly, K-tel's web site is a mess! Yes, a lot of titles are listed, but it's FAR from complete, has lousy photos, and gives few details. About 10 years ago, there was a MUCH better site devoted to K-tel releases (a fan site called "K-tel Classics"), but K-tel forced the site owner to shut it down! :-( I even made several contributions to that fan site way back when...

Awesome. Thanks, everyone. I thought the "bride" album was called Hit after Hit, but searching that title kept bringing up the k-tel album called Chartbusters! and I didn't even know Hot Hits had been on CD or else I would have bought it on that format!
Thanks again.
