From the even though it's easily available in it's 45 version department, the quality of my copy from AM Gold
1975
has always
seemed, to my ears, that's it's overly compressed. Not sure if it's from a high generation source or not. [Ron is
the expert on that. :)
], but I recreated the 45 version from the album Blue Sky, Night Thunder and it seems much more pleasing to
my ears.

Interesting! What's the copyright/release date for your copy of Blue Sky Night Thunder?

FYI, I dug out a post of mine from the Steve Hoffman board from 2010:

The 45 version sounds great on Rhino's Have A Nice Day Vol. 14 (1990). The same analog transfer is used for:
  • Razor & Tie's More Fabulous '70s (1991; differently EQ'd digital clone)
  • Time-Life's 2-CD Body Talk Vol. 20 Heart And Soul (1998; digitally exactly 1 dB louder)
The LP version also sounds pretty good on Time-Life's 2-CD Singers And Songwriters Vol. 3 1974-1975 (1999), which uses a different analog transfer.

To get the 45 from the LP, lop off the first 43 seconds so it begins on a downbeat, and begin a fade at 3:44 in the album version (= 3:01 on 45).

I downloaded a copy online of Blue Sky, Night
Thunder
from Rhapsody, so it's not from CD. It was
pleasant to find it wasn't brickwalled in the least.

Very encouraging to learn that someone's still releasing good-sounding tracks, even if they're just downloads.
