Full title: The ABC/Dunhill Singles Collection.
Great news! I have been working again with Real Gone Music, and this CD
will be released August 14th. Like the Grass Roots set we worked on, this
contains all of the correct single mixes, with one exception. John Kay
requested we use the full album version of "Monster." Everything else on the
set matches the 45 A- and B-sides exactly.

Should we assume they're all disc dubs, or did some tapes
turn up? Between the Dunhill cost-saving trash dump and
the Universal fire, there can't be any original mono tapes
still on this planet. Or.........

I have no answers for you on that, Gary. But a good buddy of mine and I
were talking last week about girls who'd had "augmentation" surgery. He
said, "I don't care how - I care about how much!" I can see his point.
I guess I look at collections like this, from labels whose U.S. mono masters
were supposedly trashed, the same way as my friend feels about
"enhancement." I don't care *how* the music got to my ears - all I care
about is how good it sounds. Today's audio technology is amazing. I
couldn't care less whether foreign tapes were located for this, if some
vinyl was used, or if it was a mix of both.
Some in this hobby seem totally fixated on determining source audio info
more than anything else. Why? To each his own. But I've never followed
that logic at all. I'm a music fan, not an FBI investigator. If it's a "should I
buy it" issue, then I'd suggest waiting for online reviews first. I always let
my own ears decide. If the music sounds clear, bright, and as I remember
the 45s sounding, that's all that matters to me, personally. I prefer to
keep things simple.

of never-before-on-CD Dunhill single versions mastered by

10 out of 10 points from me. Really looking forward for this. Agree with jim; I don't care about the source as long as it sounds good and it is the 'real' 45 in speed, pitch, length and everything (just like the Grass Roots earlier). WOW !!!

Another winner courtesy of Real Gone Music and Aaron. Also,
excellent point made by Jim. Listen carefully to one of
Aaron's vinyl dubs and then listen to one of the recent
loud, distorted and compressed CD releases of the same
song. I don't have to tell you which one sounds best (just
listen and judge for yourself).

I'm in!
The Real Gone Grass Roots collection was the first new
CD I've bought since... I honestly can't remember; it's
probably been a decade since I bought a new CD. This
will be the second new CD I've bought since...
The price will be justified just for good-sounding 45
versions of "Born" and "Magic"!

Aaron, I trust that won't be a problem when you get around to Mickie Finn: The Complete Dunhill Singles Collection. ;) (Anybody else remember that dog of a show on NBC back in '65?)
Seriously, congrats on what is sure to be another stellar-sounding collection of Dunhill goodies (I'm not one to differentiate "Dunhill" and "ABC/Dunhill;" it's just Dunhill to me.) I especially want to make sure that you and the others on the board responsible for taking the initiative in getting the ball rolling on these projects get the credit you deserve. Otherwise, we'd still be waiting or having to settle for those expensive Japanese remasters with the sub-par needledrop single bonus tracks.

Another fantastic announcement! Kudos to all the folks that are making this one happen, especially my buddy Ed Osborne and our very own Aaron K. Knowing that these guys are involved is all I need to assure me that this release will be of the highest quality.

I agree 100%. Really looking forward to this one, almost as much as
the Grass Roots cd (but they're one of my personal favorites).
Obviously this hasn't come out yet, but I'm already hoping for more
Dunhill Singles collections in the future (I'd even love to have a Thomas
Group cd, although that's extremely unlikely to happen).

Hey, I'd love it if that were included as a bonus track! ;) The station on which I heard the 45 the most as a current had a copy that skipped, too. Mine never did, but for years I expected it to whenever I played it, until I eventually forgot exactly where the skip was. Pretty sure it was shortly after the final chorus began after the instrumental break.
