Well, I have the original pressing of Greatest Hits, Vol. I & II, which contains several 45 versions only available on that set (Just The Way You Are, My Life, Big Shot, Say Goodbye To Hollywood, Pressure).
I have my own edits of "You're Only Human (Second Wind)" and "You May Be Right."

I've edited "Piano Man" to match the commercial 45 edit, and also to what I believe would be the shorter promo 45 mix.

In an old thread, Eric, we discussed how the Piano Man single is actually a slightly different mix from the LP version, and was issued a year or two ago on the import "Piano Man: Very Best of Billy Joel."

I didn't see it in the database, and didn't know if it's been confirmed, but is the version of "Piano Man" from "Piano Man - The Very Best Of" import the stock 45 version, or an edit of the LP?

It's the stock 45 version, not an edit of the LP. The reason you won't see this CD in the database is that Pat Downey has chosen not to include import CDs in the database.

The album version of "Piano Man"
cannot be edited down to recreate
the stock 45 version, which is a
different mix. This mix is also
used in the promo 45 version, which
is shorter than the stock 45
version. It is possible to recreate
the promo 45 edit using the stock
45 version included on the import
compilation Piano Man: The Very
Best of Billy Joel.

I believe Piano Man: The Very Best of Billy Joel (import) is the only CD worldwide that has the single mix of "Piano Man". Does anyone know of any others? I suppose some later CD could have used this as a source. I'm so glad some CD finally put out the single mix of "Piano Man" because I LOVE all the extra instruments they added to it. (And like I mentioned in the recent zoom meeting, I think this mix sounds SO much like Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Mr. Bojangles". I've always wondered if the remixer was purposely going for a mix like that song - because it got closer to it than the original album mix.)
