OK, slightly different question from me for this one.

I see a bunch of CDs that have the DJ edit of this running in the (3:21)-(3:22) range. So obviously people found ways to extract the promo 45 version
from the long/stock 45 version. What troubles me is that all the promos I've seen on Discogs are noted as being mono on the short side and stereo on
the long side, while all of the CD versions (short or long) are stereo.

So was there a stereo short version issued for this, or are all the (3:2x) versions on CD "unsuccessful edits of the stock 45 to create the promo 45?"
(Or are there no discernable differences between the mono and stereo mixes, meaning the edits were actually successful?)

Confused? :)

Hi Doug,

The short version of "Dazz" cannot be edited from the long version as they are different mixes. For example, note the cowbell in the last verse & vamp of the long version that is not present in the short version.

The short version was apparently mixed to stereo & simply summed to mono for your promo 45 (by the mid 70s dedicated mono mixes were becoming rare).

Thx, Andy.

But doesn't that mean that all of the short versions on CD aren't the DJ 45, because it was never released on 45 in stereo? (In other words, to get the
true short 45 you have to sum it to mono.)

Well, I guess you could say "This is the Short DJ version in stereo" or something like that.

Kinda like Andrew Gold's "Lonely Boy"...
