two of gene cotton's entries in the database need revision
the 45 with the song "you're a part of me" runs 3:15 and is just an early fade of the 3:43 cd/lp version.......the 45 states the run time as 3:18
the 45 with the song "like a sunday in salem" runs 3:27 and is just an early fade of the 4:09 cd/lp version.......the 45 states the run time as 3:29
thus both of these entries should be designated lp length and the relavent 45 notes mentioned

What CDs (in any country) have "Like A Sunday In Salem" on them? Is it from a tape source?

Looks as through there were different pressings of the 45 for "Like A Sunday In Salem." I just received one with a listed time of 4:11 (LP Length) and others are listed as 3:29.
Can anyone list fade points for the 3:29 length?

In chatting with Yah Shure, he reminded me that "Like A Sunday In Salem" was originally a B side to "Before My Heart Finds Out", thus the 4:11 listed time. When it moved up to A side status, it then was a 3:29 length.

John, because the later (3:29) single on Ariola America 7723 was the actual top 40 hit, using "LP and long 45 version" might lead one to assume that the top 40 hit had come in both short and long 45 lengths, when that was not the case. The earlier B-side (4:11) length single did not chart in its own right, so it wasn't a hit.
Some clarification would help, though. Adding a note like "originally issued as a longer (4:11) 45 B-side, which was not the hit version" might avoid some confusion.

my commercial 45 actually runs 3:29 and NOT 3:27 as
reported previously.....if you fade the 4:09 full length cd
version for 0:13 from 3:16 to 3:29 you'll effectively re-
create the vinyl 45 version....this 45 run time info s/b
added to the db....

I came across another original parent album that is currently missing from the on-line database - and since the album in question actually birthed THREE top 40 hits, bringing it up in this Gene Cotton "catch-all" thread started by edtop40 back in '06 actually works out perfectly, lol. All three of the top 40 hits came in 1978:
1. "Before My Heart Finds Out"
2. "You're a Part of Me" (w/ Kim Carnes)
3. "Like a Sunday in Salem (The Amos & Andy Song)"
The original parent album for all three of the above was 1978's Save the Dancer - yet remarkably, it NEVER cracked the top 200 in Billboard (only managed to "Bubble Under" at #202)! In 2011 - although some on-line sources say as early as 2009 - Save the Dancer saw a U.S. CD release on Renaissance 244. I don't have the CD myself (have his Best of... on People Song 0101 instead), but fortunately, it appears to still be in print today. On eBay: GENE COTTON - "Save the Dancer" (U.S. CD) On Amazon: GENE COTTON - "Save the Dancer" (U.S. CD) I know there are a few people here who don't appreciate the Renaissance label, but this is fairly significant when you consider just how rare all of GC's hits are on CD. (In fact, all three of the above have only one or two other U.S. CD appearances to date...)

Well, if Pat decides to include the "Save the Dancer" CD in his database, he should definitely add the comment (for each song) that the CD was mastered from vinyl. I am 100% certain of this.

So you DO have it??? I'm a huge fan of all three hits from the album, and have had the cassette for some 25 years now, so I'd been debating buying the Renaissance CD myself. However, I was going to await feedback from Pat or other forum members first. If what you're saying is true, I certainly agree that would be a worthy note to include in the db. But since it IS a U.S. CD, why wouldn't it automatically belong in the db??? Are you implying that Pat has omitted other U.S. CDs from the db because they were mastered from vinyl??? If so, I wasn't previously aware of that...

I don't think Pat leaves items out of the database if they are from vinyl. He usually states they're from vinyl.
And no, I don't have it. But the Renaissance album is available to hear on iTunes (partially) and Spotify (completely). Anyone listening on headphones can hear that this was mastered from vinyl.

Thanks for the additional info, EdisonLite. If it's THAT obvious, then I'll likely pass - I DO know to proceed w/ caution when it comes to the Renaissance label. A shame, since my own research indicates that the (fairly) recent U.S. issue on Renaissance is the ONLY time that Save the Dancer has ever come out on CD in the format's entire 30-year history. (Somewhat surprisingly, AFAIK, it's never been re-issued in digital form in Japan, Europe, or anywhere else in the world.) Sounds like my original U.S. cassette on Ariola America 4XW-50031 will continue to suffice - and hey, it's from a TAPE source, w/ NO vinyl noise/elements to worry about! :-)

The Save The Dancer album is also on Rhapsody
(first available in 2011) and, without a doubt, is from
vinyl with a heavy use of noise reduction in places.

Yes, the Rhapsody, Spotify, iTunes and amazon mp3 sources are all from the Renaissance CD.
