The CD version has a quiet, "rolling" spoken before the first guitar hit. It sounds like the guy in the sound booth telling the band they're recording.
Does anybody know if the single had this "rolling" at the beginning as well, or did the single start with the first guitar chord?
I was working at a "Rock 40" at the time it was released and
#1 I don't remember "rolling" at the beginning of what we played on the air (although it certainly could have been edited off by the station when they dubbed it)
and
#2 we ran this song into the GROUND... how could it possibly have not made it higher than #99 on the Billboard Hot 100?!? Tons of MTV airplay, too. I'm truly shocked.

The promo CD has a listed and actual time of 3:18 and does include the spoken "rolling" at the beginning.
