Although not a top 40 hit, it looks at least according to discogs that radio received a promo with a short 45 version back in 1972. Does anyone remember this version?
FYI, it's listed as Kenny Loggins With Jim Messina.

My promo of "Nobody But You" has a 3:06 version of "Danny's
Song" on the B side.
Discogs shows a double-A side promo of DS with the same
catalog # as NBY, but with the newer style label that
Columbia didn't start using until early 1973. Maybe they
thought they'd give it a second chance after the success of
"Your Mama Don't Dance".

That likely was a good reason for Columbia to reservice
it, and also Anne Murray's Hit cover version also likely
was another good reason for Columbia to give DS another
try.
