Gavin Christopher - "One Step Closer to You" 45 has a
listed time of 3:58. Does anyone know if this can be re-
created from the "LP Version"? Also, the U.S. 12" single
lists a "Short Version" running 4:27. Are these the same
versions? Perhaps a misprint of time on the 45? Thank
you.

According to Discogs and the picture of the Manhattan 45
label, additional keyboards were added by Tom Mandell.

I can confirm that you can’t re-create the 45 version from the LP
version.

The additional keyboard note was also on the parent
Manhattan album as well so I'm not really sure. There
is a video version posted on youtube which might be
the 45 version but it does run 15 seconds or so
longer.

I just have the song on the various artists
compilation "Rock on 1986" put out by
Madacy/Excelsior. It runs about the equivalent of the
stated time for the album version.

Not much of his stuff has been converted to cd. It's
too bad he died rather poor back in 2016 with
congestive heart failure and paralysis preventing him
from composing and playing piano.

Thank you, crapfromthepast.

Autumn, the 45 also states "additional production and
mixed by Steve Thompson & Michael Barbiero". That's why
I was thinking that it was a remix. Thank you.

If I recall correctly, the single version in my collection is one I dubbed
from a mint 45.

I just pulled up my file, and it runs an actual 4:15. The "Short Version" on the US 12" single is the same mix, but it has a slightly longer fade. I have someone else's dub of the Short Version on my hard drive, and the tail end of the song is chopped off at 4:21. It's possible the song does make it all the way to 4:27 on the 12" single.
