I listened to the 45 of "Pretty Woman" by Van Halen today, and there is a very small difference between the 45 and LP version. On the 45, there is a single snare hit at the beginning of the song (with no guitars, so it's not just the last note of the track before it on "Diver Down" which segues into "Pretty Woman"). I didn't have a CD copy available to verify any other differences; however, I don't think the 45 version has ever been issued on CD. Just another one to drive everyone nuts...

i agree the 45 is different than the cd version at the beginning..........the 45 actually starts with a tenor drum hit and not a snare and then the song starts.......

I managed to make one that's pretty close, using the drum hit from my 45!

does anyone have the 45 issued as warner 50003 but has the title track as "(oh) pretty woman"?.........the reason i ask is i have the 45 that's titled "pretty woman" issued on warner 50003.....whitburns book says that the first pressings of the 45 states the title as "pretty woman".........maybe the later version issued as "(oh) pretty woman" doesn't have the tenor drum hit at the beginning........

VAN HALEN - "Pretty Woman"

(as the run time info)
The actual 45 running time is (2:52), the listed time is "2:55" on the record label. (Warner WBS 50003 US issue)

Is it possible to grab a tenor drum hit from the instrumental before "(Oh) Pretty Woman" ("Intruder"), & re-create the 45?

AHA! OK, cool! :-)

I've been searching high & low online for a template for the 45 version; can anybody point me to a YouTube video of somebody playing the true 7" version, or do you have a lo-fi version I could use as a blueprint?

I've made A version, & if I heard it on the radio I wouldn't blink... but whether it matches THE version or not still remains to be seen, er, HEARD.

To get THE version, you'd have to lift the opening drum hit from vinyl. The opening drum on the 45 is not played with any cymbals, so I don't think you could use "Intruder."

To 'NightAire', I tried an edit with the vinyl 45 version and it came out well; if you'd like to hear it just PM me.
