I know it wasn't a Top 40 hit, but it did reach #1 on the Billboard AC chart in 2000 -- and there are some odd inconsistencies with it.
First is how it's billed. The U.S. and European promo CDs put Huey's name first, while the Duets soundtrack and Huey Lewis & The News' Greatest Hits album puts Gwenyth's name first. Huey is the first one to sing, but that doesn't always determine whose name goes first (see: "After All", "Don't Know Much", etc.).
The U.S. promo CD has the 4:53 album version, while the European promo CD has the album version as well as a 4:18 radio edit.
HL&TN's Greatest Hits has a 3:34 edit, often labeled as a "single edit", even though it didn't appear on any of the commercial or promo singles, and it's just an early fade of the album version. So then does anybody know what is the 4:18 radio edit? Just a later early fade?
This song disappeared for a long time, but Soft AC stations have started playing it again, and when I hear it, it doesn't seem like they're playing the full nearly-5-minute-long album version, although I haven't timed it exactly.

According to Discogs in the US, the 4:53 album version was released as a single.
I heard this from time to time back in 2000 I was always surprised that it did not chart on the Hot 100. I always remember it fading out at 3:34 just like the single edit.
Hope that helps.

"Cruisin" peaked at #109 on Billboard's "Bubbling Under"
Hot 100 with a 22 week stay on that chart. Quite a
lengthy stay for a "Bubbling Under" entry! It also spent
one week at No. 1 on Billboard's AC chart.
I remember hearing the full-length 4:52 LP version on
the radio, as yes, it did get a lot of airplay in my
area as well. As for the 3:34 edit, wasn't this an
exclusive new edit (early fade) on Huey Lewis & The
News' "Greatest Hits" package from 2006 in order to
squeeze 21 tracks on the disc?

Not sure, but it was a popular airplay hit back then. It seems odd they would play a long 4:52 version. At worst back then they probably did exactly what the 3:34 edit does and fade early...

Paltrow can sing? I really need to hear this b/c I can't stand the way she talks. I missed yet another in the airwaves days.

TM Century and TopHitsUSA both sent out the full album version, but individual stations may have decided to fade it out early or do a custom edit.

I checked out the video which seemed like a longer version than I was used to, except the end seems faded off. My version that I'm familiar with is the 4:52 one, that ends with Huey's improvisation, "Cruise with me babay-ah", and then Gwennyth signing back on the fade.

Is the 3:34 'single edit' an actual edit of the 4:52
version or is the 3:34 edit just a very early fade of the
4:52 version?

I did a quick comparison and it sounds like it's a very early fade. I'm not sure that it's even a "Single Edit", as Bellenger pointed out it was
possibly an early fade to make the song fit on HL&TN's "Greatest Hits" compilation. There's only 5 configurations for the single on Discogs, and none
of them show a 3:34 running time. It seems that it was only commercially released as a single in Australia and Germany, and the other 3 listings on
Discogs are 2 Promo CD Singles in the US and 1 Promo in Europe (the one with the 4:18 edit).
As for Airplay, I definitely don't remember the song fading that early on the radio, which makes me think the stations in my area either played the
full Album Version or faded the song early themselves - just not over a minute early like the 3:34 version. I noticed the 3:34 version fades out while
a verse is still being sung, and I remember hearing it on the radio fading out while the chorus was being sung.

Sounds like a more appropriate description for the 3:34
version is "greatest hits version."
