CD (Dave Clark International 9342) and the English "The Best Of The Spencer Davis Group Featuring Steve Winwood" LP (Island 9070) as well as the U.S. "Striptease" OST CD (EMI 52498) and the U.S. "The Best Of The Spencer Davis Group" CD (EMI America 46598)) and all of these were the original 45 version, so it appears that the well-known 45 version was released by in the U.S. and in the U.K.

Dan

Clearly, it is an alternate lead vocal by Steve Winwood and it features a different second verse than found on the original 45 from 1967. Also, there are no background vocals as on the original 45. I can't tell by comparing the two if they both have the same instrumental track with an alternative vocal (minus the background vocals). The fade is about 5 seconds longer on the alternate take.

I have checked all of my usual internet sites to try to find something about the history of the alternate take and why it (apparently) was first issued on the Notting Hill OST 32 years after the song's original release.

Can anyone provide any information on this issue?

Thanks.
