Just noticed that there's a collection on iTunes and
Rhapsody on the Mercury Nashville label called "Country
Songs For Children", released in 1995, that has the
alternate lyric.

No surprise if it's a collection of Tom T. Hall songs

I've never heard the alternate version either. My copy is a promo, but it's the "bourbon & grass" version.

Interestingly, there was a parody of this song called "I Like" by a guy who calls himself Heathen Dan that also has 2 versions. One appears on a Dr. Demento compilation album...this version makes a reference to cocaine.
