Brian Tarling has told me that the other Vancouver chart books are now up on Amazon. He writes:

All 3 of my Vancouver’s Charted Songs books are now available on Amazon.

Part 1 and Part 2 cover the original book, Vancouver’s Charted Songs ’56 to ’78. As I think you know,
the book had to be split into 2 parts because of the page limit imposed by Amazon.

Details are included about each book on Amazon.

The third book has been on Amazon for awhile, “Vancouver’s Charted Songs The 80’s (January 1979 to June 1993).
This book starts where the 2-part books ended.

Oh, it was certainly available I'm sure - but I never heard reference to its charts anywhere. I lived in Canada (Montreal, Toronto) periodically for several years in the 1980s & 1990s.

I was obsessed with Casey Kasem's AT40, Billboard, Record Research and all the popular music charts, including the UK and - via Billboard and the Canadian newspapers - Canada's "the Record".

I bought 45s, cassingles and CD singles at the big record stores in Canada (Sam's, HMV, Tower). I read Billboard religiously and listened to all the radio stations and watched MuchMusic.

I had never heard of RPM until 10 years ago, thanks to Wikipedia.

That's a hard question to answer. I've never heard of any one publication being referred to as the "official" charts, but RPM is probably as good as any. Oddly enough, usually when Canadian radio stations quote chart statistics, it's almost always Billboard.

There was also a magazine called The Record, which I don't believe was around for as long.

I just ordered the CHUM & Vancouver books on Amazon. (I had bought 2 RPM books from his website years ago). The prices are very reasonable (roughly $40 except one book at $56). His Vancouver's Charted Songs '56-'78 book isn't out yet because of issues with the cover of the book. I hope it will be released soon.

For anyone from Canada, are the charts from RPM Magazine considered the official charts of Canada, the way Billboard is in the US?

Does anyone know where I can buy these Whitburn-type books for Australia, New Zealand, or individual European countries (besides the UK, which I have)?

of-print Canadian chart books will be coming back into print by way of Amazon’s “print-on-demand” service. Just order them as
you would any other item, and they’ll print ‘em off and ship ‘em directly to you.

The first of his out-of-print books is already up on Amazon US and Canada, “RPM’s Pop Charted Songs 1964-1990”. Due to
Amazon’s POD page limits, this book has been split into 2 volumes, each over 500 pages, 8.5 x 11” : Vol 1 = records sorted by
