Congratulations to Paul for uncovering the story behind the song, in
addition to the song itself. Great to hear it on your show, Ron. I didn't
get to listen to the whole show yet, but what I heard I enjoyed a lot. You
actually opened and closed the show with 2 of my all-time favorite
songs, "Don't You Write Her" and "Too Late", so I was probably just as
excited to listen to those songs as I was "Ready 'N' Steady".

Great work and much appreciated,

Jon O.

For anyone who wants to hear this entire tune all the way to the fade plus three more tracks by D.A. and the Dukes then you have to listen to Ron's May 19th show with special guest Paul Haney. They even had co-writer Jim Franks call in to chat with them. Pretty cool stuff.

Thanks, Santi! Jim was a great sport, especially considering the little technical problems we had getting him on the air. It's always a treat to "talk shop" with Ron. We even delved into the "Roxy Roller" saga.

'Tunnel Power' theory. Another Canadian group, Red Rider, had a song out called 'Power" at the time, on the album the song was segued in to a short instrumental intro called 'Light At The End Of The Tunnel' This is in the same vain as 'Foreplay/Long Time' by Boston, and 'Threshold/Jet Airliner' by Steve Miller.

The music video of the Red Rider song was 'Light At The End Of The Tunnel/Power'. Or 'Tunnel/Power' for short. That was the way album radio played it. Why I don't know 100%, its too much of a coincidence, that this was out at this exact time. Rule #39 Gibbs says, there's no such thing as coincidence,

I hope I explained this correctly.

That certainly seems plausible, although the music video I remember was “Light In The Tunnel/Human Race”. I don’t remember “Power”, but now I see that on the album, it did come between the other two songs.   According to Wikipedia, “Power” did chart on the Mainstream Rock chart. “Human Race” did as well, which was of course was played with “…Tunnel”.   So yeah, it sounds like a good theory.

One problem with that theory is that BOTH "Power" by Red Rider (at #24) and "Tunnel Power" by Triumph (at #44) debuted on the chart the same week (1/29/83). And to make matters even more complicated, "A World Of Fantasy" by Triumph (which is an actual song) ALSO debuted that same week at #20!
