I'm going to start adding Billboard top 40 hits to the database that are currently missing, and I could use some research help. I already have a list the missing songs from 1970 to 1989. What I don't have is the list of US CDs on which those songs appeared. There are a total of 153 songs that need to be researched from those years.
If you have time and are interested in helping, please send me an email (aaron@top40musiconcd.com), and I can provide you with a song (or two, or three) to research.
Here's an example:
In 1970, there are three top 40 songs currently not in the database. One of those is "Let A Man Come In And Do The Popcorn (Part Two)" by James Brown. At a minimum, I would need a list of US-released full-length CDs (including any various artists discs) that has this song. If I go to the James Brown page on Discogs and choose "CD" as the format and "US" as the country, then type the song title in the Search Discography box (below the filters), it finds the following:
James Brown - Revolution Of The Mind (Live) (1993, Polydor 314 517 983-2)
James Brown - Foundations Of Funk (A Brand New Bag: 1964-1969) (1996, Polydor 31453 1165-2)
James Brown - The Singles, Volume 6: 1969-1970 (2008, Hip-O Select B0012204-02)
James Brown - 5 Classic Albums (Box Set) (2014, Polydor B0021245-02)
Those four entries will need to be added to the database, and I'll need to do a little further research to determine the versions and run times that appear on each disc. If you want to take it a step further and provide some of that info, that's great. If all you can do is just provide the list of discs, that is an excellent starting point and would be a huge help.
I'll also need some additional help researching which songs are missing from the '50s, '60s, and first half of the '90s. It's likely that by 1997 there aren't any missing songs, as 1996 was the final year of Cash Box (and therefore no more chart averaging from that point forward).

After the Hot 100 methodology was changed in late 1998, a
large number of country songs started to reach the Top 40
of the Hot 100 solely from country airplay. (This became
less common after paid downloads became part of the
methodology in the mid 00's.) The vast majority of these
songs are not included in the database. For example, only
one of Alan Jackson's ten Top 40 hits are currently in the
database and only two of Brad Paisley's seventeen Top 40
hits.
Even Taylor Swift's first top 40 hit, "Tim McGraw", is not
in the database.

Was there another chart at the time that would've been used for an average chart position?
In any case, it looks like we have a lot more top 40 entries to add in the '90s and '00s.
