For people stumbling across this thread in the future, the other discussion you mentioned is here (click).

Summary: The 1987 non-hit/One Way album version is the version that actually appeared on the "Cops" TV show; it begins with the vocal grunt. The version which became a US hit in 1993 is a different mix which may have debuted as early as 1989 (we have yet to confirm) as the 4th track on the Inner Circle Identified album. This album was released on a US CD in 1991 (Vision CDVR-3309). That CD definitely contained the hit version as track 4, and another new remix as track 11. (ref: Discogs and rips of the 1991 CD).

The 1993 hit "Bad Boys" was originally released on Inner Circle's 1987 album One Way. This album is available on CD and has just been added to the database.
