I compared the version on At The Close Of A Century to the "Woman In Red Soundtrack Version" from The Complete Stevie Wonder.

The Century version uses the same analog transfer as Complete (to the extent that any analog equipment was used for this track). The version on Century is certainly more muted than Complete. To my ears, it sounds like the effects of added noise reduction - it basically leaves the track lifeless. It's an odd thing to see in a mid-1980s track, though, so my guess is that mastering engineer Kevin Reeves either used noise reduction when there wasn't any on the source tape, or perhaps used the wrong type of noise reduction on playback (like Dolby A vs. Dolby S, etc.)

Regardless of what caused it, it's certainly an artifact of incorrect playback when producing the At The Close Of A Century set. Avoid that set for this track. Discovered something odd today. I was filtering my digital library today trying to find the best-sounding release of the LP Version of this song. I have a shared file taken from Song Review, a copy
from the Woman in Red soundtrack released as a part of the Complete Stevie Wonder digital release, and a rip from my own copy of the At the Close of a Century 4-CD box set.

When comparing the files, I realized that the version on At the Close of a Century sounds like a different mix than the others, with much less reverb on the drums and vocals. To be clear, it is
definitely not the 12" Remix: it has (from what I can tell from a quick listen) the same instrumentation and flow as the LP Version but sound of the drum track (especially the snare) is very dry -- almost no
air at all -- compared to the other files. It sounds blunt when A/B'd with either of the other two files I have.

Can anyone shed any light on whether this was a situation where two different but very similar mixes were issued? Or did they grab the wrong tape when compiling the box set? (Or are we dealing with that ugly
third option on the box set: heavy-handed noise reduction gone wrong?)   

(Sorry if this has been touched on somewhere else -- I sought and did not find!)

Maybe on an import CD but certainly not on a US release. This is one of Stevie's songs that rarely has appeared on CD compilations of his or the label's.

"Love Light In Flight" also appears on Stevie Wonder's "Song Review - A Greatest Hits Collection" however it is not noted in the database. It is the LP version clocking in at 6:54.
