Correct, David... I have several of the Carpenters' remastered CD releases of their original LPs. What I'm wondering though is if "Superstar" appears as its own separate and distinct track on the new Ultimate Collection 3-CD import set, or does it "bleed" into the songs that come before or after it like on many other CD releases? I don't think I've ever come across the original mix of "Superstar" on CD where it doesn't track into other selections on the disc. I'd like to have the original mixes of all of the Carpenters's hits where they don't track into other selections. That said, can anyone tell me if this Ultimate Collection set fits the bill?

The 45 is not radically different (I don't think there's any different instrumentation). But the balance of instruments and vocals is audibly different on the 45 version than the LP. Yes, I ended up purchasing all the "Remastered Classics" albums a few years ago just to obtain the original mixes. It's good to know there's now a less expensive option to get the hits in their original mixes.

Unfortunately, a few 45 mixes have still not shown up on CD, specifically "Please Mr. Postman" and "Calling Occupants".

Great find, Brian! With the ridiculous number of Carpenters best-of packages that have flooded the market over the years, it's about time one finally comes out containing every Top 40 hit in their original mixes! I have long been frustrated over how Richard Carpenter constantly messes with the songs by remixing them, re-recording instruments, or dubbing in additional instrumentation. He also has a highly annoying tendency to fade and segue songs into each other, rather than keeping them separate and distinct.

That said, do any of the tracks on the Carpenters' Ultimate import compilation track into one another? Yes, there are no other differences between the 45 and the LP version other than the speed. Don't know about the 45 speed, but everyone might like to know about a new import compilation Collector's Choice Music is selling, with the original LP mixes of all the songs, not the late '80s remixes. It's been issued "with Richard Carpenter's blessing," they say.
