The CD has a total of 18
tracks (including six bonus cuts). This reissue uses the
original “no drums” intro version of “Always Something
There To Remind Me” (also know as the “chimes” intro or the
“bells and thunder” intro). Track 14 is the American remix
(also known as the Jellybean 12” mix) that runs (5:42) and
ends cold. Sadly, the Tony Mansfield 12" mix was not
included.
It might be maximized, but if so, it's certainly not to the point of distortion. It's also from the master tapes. I have a mint vinyl 12" copy of this mix so the CD would have to be really good to motivate me to track it down.

Speaking of the "Jellybean 12" Mix", WLOL in Minneapolis used to play an edit of this version in the 80s. I've seen it in Virgin Record stores in New York City and I got it off amazon marketplace new for 13 bux, and it still has the beatless opening version of Naked Eyes. As a treat for me, it also has the ORIGINAL mix of "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora, which I happened to ask about on the board ages ago...this version is very different than the hit version from the US.
It may be pricey - it's 90 tracks on 5 CDs, with one entire CD dedicated to Australian artists. (Models! Divinyls! Swingers! 1927!) It appears to be mastered fairly well, without excessive compression/maximizing.

Total time of track is 3:38.

The only place on vinyl that I'd seen this version is on a promo 12"; I can't confirm on any commercial US releases. My Naked Eyes CDs, LP, and 45 are all the "drums" intro.

Edited by crapfromthepast

I didn't realize that version was available on an import.

Todd, the "no drums" intro sounds almost like the standard version, except you'd have to remove the drums from the multi-track tape until the first verse starts. Essentially, the intro is just the bells and synthesizers with an added "thunder" sound effect, and then the beat kicks in when the first verse begins.
