I just reviewed "Bite Your Lip," both the LP and 45 versions, and I agree with Andrew on this one. The 45 is a slight remix, although there doesn't appear to be any new instrumentation. You can tell right from the start, because that first guitar riff is much louder on the 45. "Bite Your Lip" is definitely a remix, a damn good one too, by Tom Moulton. It makes the song a little more rockin' by lowering the mix of the congas and punching up the guitars a little bit.

I haven't, Jim. The 45 label claims it's a remix, so I don't think you can just fade the LP version to get the 45 version. Though if it is a remix, it's a very slight one.

I don't have the To Be Continued box set, so I never realized that there is a slight pause in the medley between "Fanfare" and "Chloe". That said, it sounds like what I've been looking for has actually been on CD all along, so thanks for passing along that bit of info, Brian! I've heavily resisted purchasing the To Be Continued set though because I keep waiting and hoping that a more comprehensive box set of Elton John's hit singles will be released someday. There is a minuscule silent pause between the beginning of "Chloe" and the "Fanfare." If I'm not mistaken, you can easily chop off the fanfare and have the 45 version.

BTW, you do all know that the 45 version of "Kiss the Bride" is on the common import "Very Best of Elton John," don't you? That's the two disc set with the blue-tinted cover.

The LP version on "Too Low for Zero" segues in from the previous track, and has what sounds like a "Four!" countoff on the first drum note, which is not on the 45 version. The LP-length version on US compilations simply cuts that first drum note: "buh-BUH," rather than "buh-buh-BUH" as it is on the single version.

Ah, so I guess it can be said then that the "Fanfare/Chloe" track appearing on Elton John's To Be Continued box set (MCA 10110) is the long DJ version but :13 longer?

"Chloe" happens to be one of my personal favorite ballads from Elton John... On my promo 45, one side has the same listed and actual (4:40) version found on the commercial 45, but the other side has the title shown as "Fanfare/Chloe", with a listed time of (6:06), but an actual time of (6:03).
