I compared my promo 45 (mono) ODE-66031 (deadwax ODE 66063-ME) to Carole King Her Greatest Hits CD EK 34967, Natural Woman The Very Best of Carole King 5-099749 618121 UK Import and Carole King The Ode Collection box 48833.
I could not hear any significant strings from :41 to :47 as described.
Listening to the L-R revealed the presence of strings on the box set CD. By far this has the best sound quality with the Greatest Hits having the worst (lack of high end). The piano and bongo drums are clearly pronounced on the box set CD.
The 45, being mono, had no content in the L-R domain.

this one i really baffling me.....my commercial 45 issued
as ode 66031 has the run out groove etching 'ODE 66063-
T1'....i don't hear any strings either on my commercial 45,
the cd version or a clean-up 45 dub mark sent to me awhile
ago, in the alleged 0:41-0:47 area.....they all sound the
same....i guess i must be losing my hearing at my advanced
age!!!.........can someone send me a copy of their 45 so i

what i am saying is that the two versions sound the same to

So you're claiming then, Ed, that you can hear strings from the :41-:47 mark of your remastered Carole King Greatest Hits CD (Ode/Epic/Legacy 65846)? Interesting... I suppose it's possible there could be a second pressing of the CD containing the 45 mix. I just A/B'd my stock 45 with the track from my promo copy of the Rhymes & Reasons LP (Ode 77016; a Monarch pressing) and IMO there's no question that the strings are missing from the LP track between :41 and :47.

At the :41 mark, the difference is noticeable between the words "mind" and "of." The strings that are easy to hear on the 45 can't be heard on either the left or the right channel of the vinyl LP. I compared using only the left channel in both channels, first, then only the right channel in both channels. No strings.

If this were actually a stereo vs. mono situation, the strings would have to be present in at least one of the channels of the stereo LP. But they're not.
