Hey Brian, sorry it took so long to get back to you on your question but you are correct, there is a 45 version and an LP version of this song. On the LP version, the audience applause tracks right over the introduction of Soul Man but on the 45, the audience applause is not present on the first two notes of Soul Man and even after the first two notes the applause fades in. My version is from a TM Century series, and it fades at the 3:00 mark. I'm pretty sure the single was the live recording. The Best Of CD version does fade out during the audience applause at the end (and has a very slight fade-in on the opening), so I think it's much closer to the 45 (if not correct).

Okay, I just downloaded this from the "Essentials" CD, and was really irritated to find that it segues into the songs before and after it. There are no notes regarding this in the database, or any notes regarding a "45 version."
