Author: crapfromthepast
Subject: 2493
Posted: 16 December 2007 at 6:00pm

I have the commercial red-label 45 (A&M 75021 1477 7, 1989).

The A-side is "Video Mix/Short Solo" (printed and actual 4:31), which is track 1 of the promo CD single.

The B-side is "Featuring Vernon Reid" (printed 4:48, actual 4:47), which is track 4 of the promo CD single.

Both A- and B-sides of the 45 are radically different mixes from the LP version. Both use a live drummer, for starters, and omit the "grrrrr" opening sound effect from the LP version.

The Design Of A Decade disc is the same as track 2 from the promo CD single, the "Video Mix/Long Solo", running 4:48. This version can be easily edited to match the 45:

Keep 0:00.0-3:04.9.
Edit on downbeat.
Remove the 32 beats from 3:04.9-3:21.6.
Keep 3:21.6-4:48.3 (end).

Much as I don't like the mastering on Design due to maximization and all that, it still sounds cleaner than my near-mint 45, which is horribly distorted, most likely in an attempt to sound "loud".

Edited by crapfromthepast
