I recently ripped the CD of the soundtrack of "One Fine
Day" (1996). "Mama Said" by the Shirelles is track 4, and
it's in stereo. But there is a complete dropout for about
half a second at about 0:02. It ripped fine and CUERipper
indicated no errors at all. Could someone please check

My commercial 45, confirmed as Scepter 1217 (with handwritten deadwax
info of "45-S1217A") has both a listed and actual time of (2:10).

I only post this info because the more than 40 current db CDs that include
the original recording of this song range in actual time from (2:04) to (2:10),
with only a handful of them running either (2:09) or (2:10). There are many
that run just (2:04) or (2:05), so if you're a stickler for correct 45 length, go
with the longest CD versions you own.

Could this be from the LP "The Shirelles sing to Trumphets and Strings" (1961)? That LP has "Mama Said" on it.

I don't trust anything that Gusto says, so I assume they just pulled a master without checking. I would have thought that they'd just pirate what Rhino or Varese has done with their stuff. It says on the cover art that it's the original Scepter masters, but I wonder if it's either alternate takes on the
Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow compilation , or, the versions we've come to know are alternate takes.

I got a gift card from I Tunes so I figured, what the heck, I'd download the "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" budget album from Gusto. A compliation of the Shirelles hits. I figure since they own the masters and the samples I heard were original versions, it might be fun just to have it.

On this collection, Mama Said is really mono with instruments added to make it sound stereo, unless this is some alternate take.

There were several artists who had this done to their masters in the 60's, the label took the mono master and add instruments to it. Because they either couldn't find or locate the mult track, or didn't care.

Does anybody know when this was done, and for what original project?
