My 45's deadwax is "CHS-2410-AS". Does anyone else happen to have a stock and/or a promo 45, with an actual time closer to my "listed" (3:48) 45 time, like the version on the "Platinum Collection" CD?

I have 2 copies of this single, a stock copy and a promo, both are Chrysalis CHS-2410.

The commercial copy is the same as yours...it has the "three blind mice" intro and essentially the same structure as what's on the greatest hits vinyl (with the bass guitar/drum solo bridge edited)(intro time :43).

The promo copy has a listed & actual time of 3:48, and does not have the "three blind mice" part on the intro (intro time is :30).
The song structure has also been re-arranged somewhat. The chorus & instrumental bridge at the end of the first verse is repeated, and there seems to be a longer fade. It may be a different chorus than what's on the commercial single...it sounds like the 2nd verse from the GH. The repeat chorus sounds very tacked-on. Deadwax matrix # is CHS-2410-AS-1A on the stereo side & CHS-2410-AM-1C on the mono side. Other than being in mono, I didn't notice a difference between the 2 sides of the promo 45.

I don't have the Platinum Collection to compare it with, only the vinyl "Best of Blondie" which seems to be the same version as Jim's CD.

Edited by Hykker

This verse is found on the 12" disco mix (the one that's 10 minutes long) which is the version I believe they edited down to make the 5:37 mix for the best of album. However, there is also a very elusive FULL LENGTH version of the 6:33 album mix that runs about a minute longer and includes that final verse that is otherwise only on the 10 minute disco mix. The only place I've ever found the 'full length' album mix is on the 4-CD set "Back to the 80's: The Long Versions Volume 2" released by Sony music, which is, sadly, out of print and now going for like 200 dollars on the Amazon marketplace.

As I remember, this version didn't get a lot of airplay.

The promo 45 ran about 4:57, and that's the version that's on the 2-CD Platinum Collection. Aside from being a different edit, it's got extra bells and whistles in it. (Literally.) This is the version that I remember hearing on the air in NYC.

There was a brand new mix done for the Best Of Blondie LP, just like for "Heart Of Glass". This one starts with a few measures of drums before the rest of the instruments kick in. It's the one that runs about 5:37 and turns up everywhere. Too bad that virtually every compilation I've seen uses this version instead of another.

There's also a monstrous 10-minute version on the Just Can't Get Enough - Dance compilation CD from Rhino. I haven't tried editing it down to form any of the other versions, though.
