Oh, boy, I realize I'm probably tiptoeing around a land mine by even daring to resurrect this thread again...

It's been more than a decade since I last opined on this topic. But now that I'm revisiting it hopefully for the very last time, I'm having a change of heart regarding the conclusion I made back in 2013.

Currently, all CD entries for Aaliyah's "Try Again" have either an "LP version" or "radio edit" comment. Whenever I see an "LP version" comment, however, I typically automatically assume that there's also a "45 version" counterpart available. Otherwise, what's the point in even having the "LP version" comment to begin with, right? And since we've previously documented that there was no commercial single release for "Try Again" until very late into the song's chart run, we came to a consensus agreement that this should be classified as an airplay-only hit with no "official" 45 version.

If I'm not mistaken, the commercial 45 did eventually get released while "Try Again" was still on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, though admittedly it was very late in the song's chart run, long after it had reached its peak in popularity. By then, the commercial 45 sales were negligible and had no real measurable impact on the song's chart performance.

So your point is well-taken, Pat... The database currently shows DJ CD single info for Aaliyah's "Try Again"... I have the 12" (I purchased it in 2001 on Blackground Records) The catalog number is 7-2438-38722-1 3 (T-38722). The same number is etched on to the lead-out section on the vinyl itself (with an "A" at the end.)

I just obtained a second promo CD for "Try Again." It's a factory-pressed
disc with front and back inserts and artwork. It has the following versions:

1. No Timbaland Version (listed 3:27; actual 3:26)
2. LP Version (listed 4:05; actual 4:04)
3. Call Out Hook

My old top 40 station used to play this "No Timbaland Version," which is
essentially the instrumental up until Aaliyah's vocals, and then the song is
faded out before the ending "rap" part by Timbaland. This is not a unique
"mix" that completely removes Timbaland throughout. He can still be heard

Well, like I said in a previous post, the jukebox 45 was actually a 45 for "Come Back In One Piece," and "Try Again" was the B-side. So I don't know if that would technically be considered the 45 version.
