We got in two different promo CD singles for this back in 1990, and here are all the particulars:

I noticed that Joel Whitburn's book gives a time of 4:23 for the single. I'm not sure where that comes from - my 45 has a printed and an actual time of (4:31), with a designation of "(Edit)" next to the title.

Here are instructions for creating the 45 edit from the (5:47) LP version:

Keep the first 7 beats of the song from 0:00.0-0:07.0.
Edit on snare.
Remove the 16 beats from 0:07.0-0:20.2.
Keep the 66 beats from 0:20.2-1:14.4.
Edit on snare.
Remove the 16 beats from 1:14.4-1:27.5.
Keep the 170 beats from 1:27.5-3:47.1.
Edit on snare.
Remove the 32 beats from 3:47.1-4:13.4.
Keep the 89 beats from 4:13.4-5:26.5.
Put a 16-beat sinusoidal fade from downbeat-to-downbeat, from 5:13.4-5:26.5.

Once everything is mixed down, you should have edits at 0:07.0, 1:01.2 and 3:20.8, with a 16-beat fade from about 4:20.8-4:33.9. The tail of my fade may run a second or two longer than on the actual 45.
