Author: crapfromthepast
Subject: 2892
Posted: 05 December 2007 at 10:11pm

The Edit from the promo CD single can't be recreated from the LP version. I didn't know that initially, and I got the rest of the edits figured out before I realized the last 15 seconds is unique to the edit.

So my promo CD single is Paisley Park/Reprise PRO-CD-4347, 1990, with two tracks:

Edit (printed 3:49 on CD, printed 3:59 on back cover artwork, actual 3:53)

Album Version (printed 6:50 on both CD and artwork, actual 7:11)

Here are partial instructions for creating all but the last 15 seconds of the edit, based on the LP version:

Keep the first 14 beats from 0:00.0-0:09.5.
Edit on downbeat.
Remove the 16 beats from 0:09.5-0:17.5.
Keep 0:17.5-3:01.7.
Edit on downbeat.
Remove the 16 beats from 3:01.7-3:09.7.
Keep the 18 beats from 3:09.7-3:19.1.
Edit on snare.
Remove the 16 beats from 3:19.1-3:27.1.
Keep from 3:27.1-4:01.4.
Edit on downbeat.
Then you're SOL for the last 15 seconds of the edit, which has a 32-beat fade on a guitar loop that's not in the full LP version. The LP version, meanwhile, goes into "crossover" and another solo.

If you followed all this, your incomplete mixdown would have edits at 0:09.7, 2:53.7, 3:03.2 and 3:37.5.

Good luck finding the promo CD single! (I'll be happy to send out dubs...)
