I heard from reliable sources that a re-release of Let It
Be was in the works to be released concurrently with the
DVD/Blu-Ray release of Get Back. Not officially confirmed,
of course so don't quote me.

In the meantime, I suggest scouring "The Internet Archive"

David - perhaps Peter Jackson does not want to intrude on
Michael Lindsay Hogg's turf. Peter said he does not want to
replace Let It Be but complement it.I think the original
Let It Be contained complete takes of several songs at
Twickenham and Apple that Peter truncated. Same with the
rooftop concert. Totally different camera angles. And those
classic songs from Jan 31 were a centerpiece of Let It Be.
They were really whacked by Peter Jackson.I hope a DVD set
of Get Back corrects some of this. And a restored release

This may not help, but Let It be has been issued several
times in various formats. Perhaps you can find a VHS tape
or would be interested in a Limited Edition DVD on eBay.

A new edit is better than nothing. I think McCartney has said many times that he does not want the movie released and since the Beatles control the rights to it, that is where we are. For those who don't know, Let it Be (the movie) is in 3 parts and is now on Disney +. Considering this has been in the vaults for over 50 years now, it is worth a watch.

There are many theories as to what is holding up Let It Be. Poor sales of
LIBN, the film itself is a bit of a mess requiring major work, the whole
attitude of the film might tarnish the Beatles image. Apple want to sell the
Beatles as good cheerful pop music and maybe if a new generation of fans
see them warts and all in Let It Be, it may run the risk of alienating new
fanbase. Paul might be concerned how he comes off in LIB. I would guess a
combination of politics and image in today's market. Do they make a BIG
splash announcing it, only to have people only bear to see it once and not
recommend it to friends? Do they make it a low-key release? Will it short
change its sell value?
So its a mix of marketing and politics.

ok, so i admit this is not a music question (although it does relate to a lot of top 40 songs), but does anybody know why "let it be" the movie has not been released on DVD??? both early beatles flicks and "yellow submarine" available... does it have to do with phil spector and/or (everyone's favorite) ABKCO???
