Author: Todd Ireland
Subject: 3428
Posted: 08 May 2008 at 11:24am

Excellent info, Yah Shure! So, to paraphrase what you posted on the "XM Fan" website... RCA serviced two different promo 45s of "Amie" to radio. The first has a run time of 2:37 and is identical to the commercial 45. The second one running 3:16 features a longer intro and ends cold with the "Falling in and out of Love" chorus.

Now, you also mention in your post that the longer 3:16 radio version made its commercial CD debut on Time-Life's Sounds of the Seventies - AM Nuggets compilation (catalog #SOD-35). If this is indeed the case, then the current database comment for this CD should be changed from "neither the 45 nor LP version" to something like: "this is the long DJ edit". There are also a half dozen other CD entries in the database right now where "Amie" runs 3:14 and has the "neither the 45 nor LP version" comment. It appears likely these discs all contain the longer DJ edit as well!

Getting back to my initial post, I know I've also heard radio stations play the "Falling in and out of Love" track followed by "Amie" for a total run time of 6:30. I guess these stations must've all simply played the two tracks back-to-back directly from the Bustin' Out LP because I'm not aware of a promo 45 existing in this 6:30 length.

And speaking of the Bustin' Out LP, I wonder why RCA waited well over two years after the album's release to finally issue "Amie" on a commercial 45??

On the LP, there is a track called "Falling in and out of Love", which runs 2:12 and then segues smoothly into "Amie", the proceeding track. I bring this up because I've heard radio stations over the years play "Falling in and Out of Love" and "Amie" together as one continuous song and it's made me wonder if a promo 45 was ever issued in this manner? The two tracks do sound like they were meant to go hand-in-hand. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Edited by Todd Ireland
