There is a longer version of Chain of Fools that runs about 4:22 and was originally on The Best of Aretha Franklin LP back in 1973.  That version (I believe) is also on the Rhino 4 CD compilation called Aretha from 2021. Not 100% sure if that's the version you're looking for.  Great compilation BTW.

Confirming that the original release of Atlantic Rhythm And Blues 1947-1974 Vol. 6 (1985) is indeed a fold-down of the stereo version, and is not the mono 45 version. There are three differences:
  • Much more reverb on the stereo version
  • Fade starts and ends earlier on the stereo
  • Different guitar intros on the mono and stereo versions! It's literally different notes being played. You can actually hear an edit on the stereo version, as it cuts to just-about-silence before Aretha sings her first note! My guess is that the mono (45) version came out first, and the stereo version was recut to be a little shorter, so that Aretha got to the singing a little quicker (just a guess).
Warner Special Products' 20 Party Classics (1986) uses the same analog transfer as the 1985 Atlantic set.

Atlantic R&B Vol. 6 is currently listed as "LP version," while 20 Party Classics says "stereo LP version bridged to mono." I agree this is confusing, since they are the same.

I don't know if the original 1968 mono LP has a fold-down or a dedicated mix. If it's the latter, I think the "stereo LP version bridged to mono" is more accurate for the database. If it's a fold-down on the original LP, I think just "LP version" works given that the CD is listed as (M).

It seems the 1968 Lady Soul stereo LP version of "Chain of Fools" has about twice as much reverb as the 1967/1968 mono single.

There is a mono LP, but I don't know what it sounds like.

From the following CDs, I have rips which are true to the single:
• The Atlantic Singles Collection 1967–1970
• Legends of Soul vol. 4
• Atlantic Ultimate '60s Soul Sensations
• Billboard Top Rock 'n' Roll Hits
• Rock the Dome
• Soul Hits vol. 3

Meanwhile, the mono version on the 1986 edition of the Atlantic Rhythm and Blues 1947–1974 box set (listed in the database as individual disc Atlantic Rhythm & Blues Volume 6) has the extra reverb. It seems to be a fold-down of the stereo mix, same as on the Japan-made 20 Party Classics. The box set's use of this mix should be noted in the database.
