My understanding is that the correct 45-LP version running at 3:36 comes from this compilation from the UK.

Just got it, time on the album label says 3:45 but actual run time is 3:36.   
I should note, the audio level between 3:28 - 3:36 is so low I had to turn everything way up to get the last traces....it's a long-trailing fade. I could see where whoever was mastering the cd might not have heard it, and just faded it where they thought there was silence. "Answering Machine" has appeared on two database CDs to date, but both run shorter than the 45 at 3:32 and 3:29, respectively.
