Check out the song's original title on the leadoff track of the Every Mothers' Son LP. With a mouthful like that (which isn't even sung that way in the song) you'd have to wonder if the single would have ever made it out of the harbor, had they not changed the title.

On my copy of the LP, "Come And Take A Ride In My Boat" is also listed on the back cover. Only a yellow sticker on the front says "Includes 'Come On Down To My Boat'."
