Yes they are remixes, there are two remixes, the second stereo remix commissioned by Ace Records in England has the correct reverb. The mono single on Laurie still has that something special. Am I correct that Dion's Runaround Sue 1961 vinyl LP was only issued in mono? If so, the database should probably have the following general comment added underneath the song title for "The Wanderer" (just like it appears in the database for "Runaround Sue"):

I haven't checked the other Dion singles from this time period (aside
from Runaround Sue), but my suspicion is that they also are mixed with
slapback echo. If anyone has time to check, please let us know your

Although there's no notation in the database, I am of the opinion that "LP and 45 version" should probably be noted for the mono mix. Both the lead vocal and the percussion have a slap back (tape) echo on the mono version. The stereo mix does not have this echo, but instead it adds some reverb on the percussion. I thought that too, also about "Runaround Sue" on that same disc. On the album "Runaround Sue," the single's flipside, "Runaway Girl," is mono on the album, but it doesn't have that same harshness you hear on the mono "Runaround Sue" and "The Wanderer." It sounds nice. The problem with this is that in the 60s, even into the early 70s the single/mono mix often had overdubs that were done "live" during the mastering and aren't on the multis (assuming they exist). Any stereo version (or later remix) would be lacking these parts, or would have to be re-created which would be pretty difficult to get right. I'd rather have the correct mix of a song in mono than a stereo mix that doesn't sound right. Don't even get me going on 2-track "stereo".

The stereo Warners 45 mentioned upthread wasn't the only "The Wanderer" single to tie into The Wanderers back in 1979. That July, Laurie Records issued a DJ 45 of the mono mix of "The Wanderer," utilizing the single's original catalog number (Laurie 3115.)

Under the title and artist was a mention of the song having been "From the Orion Motion Picture 'The Wanderers'". The Mono 45 version of this track still has the mojo. 2:39
playing time on my Laurie Double Gold 45 single. My wife's
UK London original is also 2:39. Fade on the Stereo is
