I thought the edit would be simple, since there's only a 12-second difference between them and the mixes sound the same to my ears.

Actually, you can't edit the album version down to the single. The first portion is cut out of the album version, which would be an easy edit if there weren't a sung note over the first bit of it. Oh well.

FYI - I have the album version on Hot Hits Vol. 17 and Hot Hits DJ Pop Vol. 3, where it runs 4:38.
