I don't even remember how I ended up way over there, and it's nice to be back!

I was a little nervous relying on an MCA reissue to be the real deal, but when I played it and it was mono I was encouraged...right up until I tried to find the single version overdubs!

How'd that quickie move from Albania to the U.S. go? :)

Yeah, it's a real roll of the dice with reissue 45s. MCA often reused the original stampers, but "often" leaves way too much wiggle room, as it appears with your copy.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the ride here. Lots of learning, great teachers, and, best of all, no final exams!

Having now had a chance to examine my MCA 45 in light of David's notes, I'm beginning to suspect MCA may have folded the stereo mix for that release. The only thing David mentioned that I can hear are tambourine taps from 2:10 to 2:31, which are present in the stereo mix as well. So I folded the stereo mix and to me it sounds pretty darn close to the MCA 45. The 45 runs about .5% faster than the stereo CD version, but I think that's probably within the margin of error of turntables and tape machines. So now the UNI 45 gets added to my shopping list!

Since joining this board a couple of years ago, I too have become obsessed with documenting 45 vs. LP differences, something Pat's database doesn't detail, however the board does for some. I have an MS Access database I designed myself to track this stuff, often learning it from other friends on this board. Welcome aboard the board!

I tried several different searches, but never using just "salvation." Can't wait to get home from work and look for those differences. For projects like this usually I put both versions in Adobe Audition multitrack and sync them for speed, and then use "solo" to pop back and forth. Subtle differences are hard to spot sometimes, so my thanks to David Clark for documenting them!

I consider the members here friends and yet I've never met any of them!

Regarding your question on this song, I did a search for thread title and nothing came up under Neil Diamond. I typed in 'salvation' and this is what came up. It seems David Clark was able to discern 45 vs. LP differences.

From David Clark: I just pulled my mono Neil Diamond 45 of the above, and I conclude the following. On the mono 45 there is an additional vocal overdub from 1:08 to 1:15 and from 1:23 to 1:29, tambourine taps from 2:10 to 2:31, bell overdubs from 2:30 to 2:42 and a tambourine shaking at 3:17 for a few seconds, all not present on the stereo LP version; 45 timing is 3:30 (a few seconds longer than the stereo LP version) not 3:08 as stated on the record label.
