Thanks to Eric M, I can confirm that Dance Classics Vol. 26 uses the same analog transfer as a UK collection called '80s 12" Party (EMI Gold, 2009). Good question!

The only place I have the 7:13-ish mix is on the Dutch various artists compilation Dance Classics Vol. 26 (2009).

It's not quite "longer than the LP version", though. It's the LP version, with additional material inserted from 5:44 to 6:29. Y'all.

Do we know where the 7:13-ish length "LP Mix but longer" version actually originated as far as being available, either promo or commercial? On Discogs, the U.S. 12" singles appear to have the regular 6:33 LP Versions according to the label. Are these labels generally incorrect? Just trying to understand if this mix was ever known to exist prior to it surfacing on some V/A comps in the '90s-2000s?

Oh, Agreed.   You cut the rap out of the song and remove
the whole point.
They were being very "cutting edge" and the new rap genre
had become very club-chic.
The verse lyrics merely describe a club filled with
people dancing to rap, hence the clever title.

It's sorta like taking the "The Name Game" by Shirley
Ellis and cutting out all instances of her actually
playing the game, and only leaving the parts where she
describes it. :-D

Seriously. Rapture would just be 4 minutes of Debbie singing those whining falsetto verses without the rap. Of all the various versions, for me the most difficult to
find was the longer-LP version with the missing verse.
As mentioned above, it has appeared on some European V/A
comps.
It was also on a UK Blondie Best-Of called
"Atomic/Atomix"...it was a 2-cd set.

For anyone who may still be looking for it,
I just noticed this set is now available in the U.S.
digitally, so it should be on most download services.

Note: on the digital album, this version is a bonus track
- and is labeled "U.S. Disco Version" - but that of
course is an odd description since to my knowledge this
version has never appeared on any U.S. vinyl 12" or
promo. All i ever saw in any form was the 10 minute
European Disco Mix.

So when the blogger called it a "purified" version I had no idea it meant his own edit. I just wanted to know if it was an official release or not. I agree it is a poor edit, plus minus the rap it's no longer "Rapture." I'm sticking with the 4:57 single version. See, I'd agree with you. In fact, I prefer to live without that third verse, because to me it's additive. I never heard it until 1983, which was when the song was two years old and in gold rotation, if much heard at all by that time.

I would be curious to hear more about the special "LP version" that contains the third verse. I'm just wondering what the edit points are on such a track. Is it on a legit CD release?
