I pulled out my copy of the promo 12", and I can verify that it does NOT start with the long guitar intro like in the video. At one point I had a copy of the 4:10 version that someone sent me
from the import CD. It was obviously taken directly from a videotape
of the music video. The quality was just okay. You’d probably have
similar results dubbing the video from YouTube.

According to Discogs, there was a promo 12" in the US. I don't suppose anyone knows any other source for the 4:10 version mentioned in the first post? I've done some searches for "The 80's, Vol.2" CD that was mentioned and there's so many Various Artists compilations out there with those words in the title, it would take too long to go through them all. Dug out my 45...

Commercial 45 (Columbia 38-05796) has a printed time of
3:22 and an actual time of 3:15. It's a live drummer
playing with a click track, and the 45 runs at about
129.5 BPM throughout.

The version on Play Deep also runs at about 129.5
BPM throughout. There are digital clones of Play
Deep on the Outfield collection Playing The
Field (1992), and the compilations Keep On Loving
You (Sony, 1993), the 2-CD Read The Hits
(Sony, 1994), and Rock On 1986 Mad About You
(Madacy, 1998). Priority's Rock Of The '80s Vol.
14 (1994) also uses the same analog transfer. All
are the LP length, and none of these sound bad.

One version to avoid is on Realm's Gold And Platinum
Vol. 3 (1987), which is the LP length but runs about
0.6% too slow. There's a differently EQ'd digital clone
on Time-Life's Sounds Of The Eighties Vol. 21 1986-
1989 (1997). Avoid these.

It's pretty straightforward to trim the LP length down to
the 45 length. I'll use Read The Hits for my
timing, but the others should be similar.

A good approximation for the 45 fade is a 32-beat
sinusoidal fade from the downbeat at 2:58 to the downbeat
at 3:13. The difference in timing is due to a barely
audible tail to the fade, which extends a little farther
on the 45 than on my approximation. I wouldn't sweat the

That seems to be it except the background noise (of talking and footsteps) drops out after the guitar riff starts but seems to keep going for a while on the video.

Is this a rare find on CD? According to the database, it doesnt seem to be on any domestic CD. I have a CD called "The 80's Vol.2" (Columbia 2-981.973) which seems to be some sort of import from Brazil. The CD contains some big 80's tracks from Journey, Steve Perry, Men At Work, etc.

The only track that seems to stand out is a version of "Your Love" by The Outfield that has a time of 4:10. It begins with about 5 seconds of chatter and what sounds like footsteps. Then the guitar riff kicks in. But the vocal doesn't kick in right away, the guitar plays an instrumental intro for around :30 seconds and then the vocal, "Josie's on a vacation far away", finally kicks in.

Does anyone know where this version is from as it is not listed in the Database?

I happen to love this version as you get that awesome guitar riff intro before the vocal comes in.
