The stated run time on the label is 3:42. I timed my copy out to 3:50 (it may have been 3:51 but my VG+ 45 played rather noisy and anything past 3:50 was totally taken over by surface noise) and it does have the drums at the end of the fade out. Matrix is: 7-29979-ZCA-1673-S-SR1 SP S-2 (that may also be 5P 5-2, it's hard to tell as the writing is rather faint for those parts).

"Hard To Say I'm Sorry" also appears on the "Summer Lovers" soundtrack (Warner Bros. 1-23695) LP, that does not appear to be released on CD. The version on that LP runs 3:48, although it is listed at 3:50. That must be the difference Todd as I do not hear any drum roll during the fadeout on the dj copy. The matrix number is a very long number but it does have "dj" etched in it so I am convinced there are two different pressings of this 45.

Does anyone have the stated running time on the commercial 45?

As you know, the LP version of "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" transitions into an uptempo jam called "Get Away". I asked Ed to e-mail an mp3 of his commercial 45 copy so I could check the time. When listening closely to the final few seconds on the commercial 45, you can actually hear the opening drum roll that commences the "Get Away" portion of the song before the 45 completely fades out. Do you hear the drum roll at the tail end of your DJ copy, Pat? I recently took "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" from a CD source and replicated the fade exactly as it is heard on the commercial 45 using my digital audio editing software. In the process, I timed the 45 run time to be 3:51. The database currently lists the actual time at 3:48. Those single versions are available on the domestic Very Best Of CD as well. Of course, the VBOC disc did use the "Hard To Say I'm Sorry/Get Away" medley (I found the faded single on an import David Foster compilation).

Speaking of Chicago, I asked about this a while ago, so let me try again. Anyone here know the difference between the 45 and LP versions of "(I've Been) Searchin' So Long" (I don't think I've ever heard the single)?
