The Monarch stock 45 pressing of the Turtles' "You Showed Me" I bought when it first charted has a dry mix. I recently picked up a clean stock CTH pressing and was floored by how much more compressed and wetter the mix was when compared to the Monarch.

Out of curiosity, I dug out both my original CTH-pressed stock copy of the Clique's "Sugar On Sunday" and Monarch-pressed DJ 45. Same result: Monarch = dry, CTH = Compression City (although not wetter.) Based on other Monarch and CTH White Whale 45s I have, it seems clear that the label contracted its plants to do both the mastering and pressing, hence the variations we've noted.

The matrix on the label reads W-175-RE-2 and the deadwax matrix reads W-175-45-Re-2 as well as having the monarch pressing plant stamp and Delta 67468. This record has the exact same stampers used on both sides. Looking on ebay, the only stock issue that appears to have the same label matrix as my promotional copy is on the dark blue label, but I don't know if that stock 45 contains the same version as this promo or how it differs from the lighter blue label stock pressing.

Edited by TomDiehl1

I only post this info because all 9 of its current database CD appearances (all in stereo), run slightly shorter, at either (1:58) or (1:59).
