I just did the same in Cool Edit Pro, and the CD single is 0.103% faster, which is pretty insignificant. By the end of the song, the two files are only out of sync by about 2/10 of a second.

I figured to convert 0.097 to a percentage would mean simply multiplying it by 100 which is 9.7%. Apologies if that was the cause of confusion.

Just about 9.7% faster, to be exact. Very subtle difference and otherwise, apart from the audio level and the fadeout on the crickets sound effects at the end, the mastering on the single seems pretty much identical to the album version.

Edited by LunarLaugh - 03 November 2025 at 2:44pm

Apparently, we must have always started the next song before you could hear the crickets, because even my TM Century GoldDisc runs an actual 3:52 with the crickets on the end.
